Types and Procedures of Mesothelioma Surgery
Mesothelioma is included as a cancer type that can be easily removed with surgery. However, even though it seems impossible, but in specific condition, combined with chemotherapy, it can be done to remove the cancer. There are three procedures that should be completed in mesothelioma surgery process, they are: diagnostic, curative, and palliative surgery. The first procedure, diagnostic surgery is used to confirm the existence of the cancer and find its location. The second procedure, curative surgery is the process to remove the cancer. It deals with the cancer quantity. On this procedure, chemotherapy and radiation are often inserted. The last procedure is palliative surgery. This procedure is aimed to remove all the tissues that contain cancer.

On the process, fluids in the lungs is drained and given chemical substance to prevent inflammation. Paracentesis mesothelioma surgery is similar to pleurodesis surgery. The surgery cannot cure the cancer, it only give comfort to the patients. Thoracotomy surgery is used for patients who have pleural mesothelioma. The last surgery is thoracoscopy. This surgery is used to support accurate diagnosis for mesothelioma and other lungs problems. On the surgery, a long thin tube is used to take sample in lungs pleural space.
